Change of Chair of Trustees from May 2024

Barnwood Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Colin Smith as the new Chair of Trustees.

Ann Santry, Barnwood Trust’s current Chair, is retiring in May 2024.

Ingrid Barker had been appointed as Chair designate but having recently accepted the position of Joint Chair of North Bristol NHS Trust and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, she has decided to resign from the Barnwood Board.

Colin Smith became a Trustee of Barnwood Trust in 2019 and currently chairs the Trust’s Funding Committee.  He will take on the role of Chair of Trustees from the Trust’s Annual General Meeting in May 2024, for a 3-year period.

Speaking for the Board of Trustees, Vice-Chair Trish Jay said:

“Colin is an excellent candidate for the role of Chair at Barnwood Trust. He is a strong advocate for partnership working and involvement of disabled people and people with mental health conditions in strategy building – to ensure ‘best’ use of the Trust’s people and financial resources towards the change that’s needed in Gloucestershire.”

“As Chair of the Funding Committee, Colin has championed organisation-led change through the Funded Partner Programme. He was also instrumental in supporting the sale of the Manor Gardens site to Stonewater Housing, strongly advocating for a disability focus and community benefit in the incoming scheme.”

Speaking about the news of the change of Chair, Chief Executive Sally Byng said:

We are delighted that Colin has been appointed Chair of Barnwood Trust.  He has demonstrated great strategic leadership and commitment to Barnwood’s mission in his time as Trustee. We look forward to working under his leadership as Chair, and wish Ingrid Barker well in her new role.

“Having been a Barnwood Trustee for half a decade it is a great privilege to have been appointed as the new Chair to help continue the work being undertaken by the enthusiastic and highly capable team, and building on the significant developments during Ann Santry’s tenure as Chair.”
