Stories of Significant Change
In order to celebrate and share some of the stories emerging through residents connecting with their communities, Barnwood has been hosting Stories of Significant Change events in different parts of Gloucestershire.
At the name suggests, these story catching sessions bring people together in a local area to share their experiences and the changes they have seen through involvement with their community. Coming together as a group means it’s possible to identify themes emerging from across a variety of stories, as well as being a chance to connect with others locally and hear about what’s been happening.
Local Stroud-based illustrator Karl Whiteley (http://www.who587.com/) has been working with Barnwood to create a series of story boards which help bring some of these stories to life. The story boards featured below were produced following story catching sessions in Tewkesbury and Northway.
- Knitting Our Lives Together – the story of a community coming together one stitch at a time through residents with a shared passion for knitting
- Walking Football – how local people with a love of football teamed up together
- Northway Strollers – when residents with an interest in walking and talking started meeting, there was magic in store!
- The Village Hall – how redecorating a community venue led to old neighbours reconnecting and new groups starting
We are planning to hold more story catching events in the near future and look forward to sharing more stories with you soon.
